FAQ

How accurate are the times?

The page uses the NOAA solar position formula (civil sunrise/sunset: the sun's upper edge at the horizon), typically accurate to about ±2 minutes. It does not account for local terrain or tall buildings.

Why do preset cities show times in the city's own time zone?

So you immediately see what a local resident would see on their clock, with daylight saving handled automatically.

What does "sun does not rise or set" mean?

Near the poles, summer can bring 24-hour daylight (midnight sun) and winter 24-hour darkness (polar night). There is no sunrise or sunset on those dates.
